Three Canadian Telecom providers have a stranglehold on the massive mobile market in Canada: Telus, Bell, & Rogers.
These companies are protected in a huge way as American and other international companies are restricted from operating on Canadian soil, and largely as a result of this conglomeration of power Canadians pay absurdly high rates for mobile data and basic telecommunications. (About double the price Australians pay in a comparatively difficult geographical circumstance.)
The big three Canadian companies effectively fix the prices for mobile data in the country and stay very much on par with each other – very mafia style operation – and because of their high pricing and market domination, they are incredibly successful companies.
Why hasn't some industrious Canadian billionaire started a new Canadian telecom provider to offer mobile data at a reasonable rate?
