My S/O recently mentioned Burnett’s Vodka in casual conversation with a friend only to find ads for Burnett’s Vodka being put onto her Instagram feed the day after mentioning it. With the understanding that Google tracks visited websites and search data for use in their advertising business, I asked if she had recently searched for Burnett’s or visited Burnett’s’ website, which she says she hasn’t. I’m just trying to figure out if it is possible that Google is using built-in microphones on smart phones to collect data on individuals, or how it is possible that Google could be utilizing a fragment of a conversation as data for advertising.
