How to stay safe in the modern spy riddled tech world?

In a world where the NSA filters our personal info through the Bluffdale Data Center, Google listens to every word we say, and Intel and other chipmakers could possibly be building backdoors into the very silicon we use everyday......what are some of the most secure pieces of software and hardware you can think of? I currently use only Apple devices because Apple seem to be doing the best job of preserving privacy when compared to their competitors, but I assume they must still spy on their users somehow. So far I have learned about Tails, other hardened Linux distros, VPNs, and the TOR browser. What are some other pieces of hardware/software that are useful for remaining safe? And in your opinions what would be your ultimate hardware/software setup for remaining completely(or at least somewhat) under the radar?
